Personal Statement
I am a serious basketball player and a serious student. I attend Scotland Campus, one of the very best basketball prep schools in the United States and I'm taking college classes while on campus. It has been an extraordinary experience and I’ve learned a lot. Having this experience of living at prep school away from home has prepared me to make the transition into a college program as a freshmen. I believe I will make the transition smoothly and quickly and will handle the challenges much better than other incoming freshmen.
I’ve always tried my outright hardest to operate around this quote: “How you do anything is how you do everything.” Prep school has encoded this mentality into my brain. Every time I lace up the shoes, step on the court, or get in a stance, I’m doing it with as much effort, discipline, focus, and ambition as possible. Everything is crucial. The so-called “little things” aren’t little at all. It doesn’t matter if it’s diving for a loose ball in the middle of the 2nd quarter, cheering for the team on the sideline, or shooting the game-winning shot, I do everything with as much effort, discipline, focus, and ambition as I can.
This same quote I don’t just apply to basketball, I apply it to my life too. The real reason I want to play basketball in college is because of how much the game has taught me about life. I’ve literally taken life advice from a bouncing, orange ball on some of life’s toughest challenges and decisions. Overcoming adversity, motivation, and more challenges like these I’ve faced both in basketball and in life. I want to play basketball in college because I believe the game still has so much to teach me about what I will face in life.
