Personal Statement
My name is Breck Young, a senior at Belle Fourche High School in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. At 6’2” 180 lbs., I have always wanted to be a college basketball player. I’ve been immersed in basketball my entire life, and am ready to take it to the next level.
I see myself as college basketball material. I see the court extremely well. I know where the openings in a defense are because I can see where the other team's defenders are playing most of the time. Because of this court sense, I am able to make cuts, drive to the hoop, and make passes very well. I love attacking the hoop to dish or score. I’ve never been a great shooter, and so last year I worked hard to improve my mid-to-deep shooting. I am now able to shoot off the dribble and catch and shoot pretty well. I am not the fastest kid on the court, but I know how to move without the ball because I read my defender well and make cuts off of him. Defensively, I may not be the best or quickest, but I will work my tail off to guard the man I am put on. I have room for improving myself defensively, but I am willing to put in as much time as needed to better myself in anyway. My determination, drive to improve, and my work ethic make me a very coachable potential playmate and teammate.
I am a pretty good student. I learned my junior year how important grades were to play college basketball so I've been trying as hard as I can to bring that 3.3gpa up. I have a 21 on the ACT with a 24 on the writing. I have just retaken it and am awaiting my new scores. I plan on studying physical therapy in college and I know that grades will be a number one priority, then basketball.
I am ready to continue my basketball career and get better and better everyday while worming as hard as I can. Thank You for your time.
