Personal Statement

First, I want you to know what I can do to help the team; I hustle and work hard every time I get the opportunity to practice and/or play. I take charges, play tough defense, always box out, take good shots. I have a good vision of the court and I make the proper passes. Some of my qualities go unnoticed, because I am a team player. I always have an extremely positive attitude. Education is extremely important, not only to society, but to me and my family as well. I am not satisfied with mediocre. I strive and my family pushes me to do and be my best in everything I do. Due to my family preparing me for life, I feel I am equipped for the adverse challenges that come my way. I feel that a high quality education will challenge me the most, therefore, I strive for that high quality education. Reality is, everything in this world revolves around money. A four year institute with a high quality education is extremely expensive! In order for me to go to college, I would have to have a college scholarship. A scholarship opportunity opens doors to world class education where after college/university you can get any job in any place in the world with that certificate. A college scholarship is an opportunity for a better tomorrow. A wise man once said that a dream is useless unless executed. Scholarships have fulfilled many peoples’ dreams and it’s on me to turn my dream into a reality.

  • Simpson has an impeccable work ethic. He is a veteran of the Coach Hemi Camp series and brings his hard hat ready to improve each time. This year he displayed improved confidence in his point guard skills. Although his jump shot stroke is clean, he was willing to hit the open player and play the role of a facilitator. By Jonathan Hemingway

  • EBA All-American Boys Camp 2016
  • 9/03/16 to 9/04/16
  • Date: October 16, 2016 Evaluator: Jonathan Hemingway Location: #EBAAllAmerican The area that Simpson has grown the most in is in his aggressiveness. He is playing hard on both ends of the court and giving his best effort. He has turned into a very good facilitator. He handles the ball with confidence and delivers the ball to his teammates with effectiveness. He showed leadership skills in drills and games as he was very vocal on the court. He hit open jumpers when they were available to him, however proving that he can create his own shot at times will be an area that he can grow. By: @JLHemingwayPSB & @StephenPeckPSB

  • 88 Desmond Simpson (Cleveland) 2018 Rising junior proved he could score in the half-court setting hitting shots from the outside and putting the ball on the floor and making some tough chances in the paint, showing more aggression on the offensive side of the ball than in the past. He has the desire to run the show from the lead guard position but will need to work on his decision making pertaining to passing and the intangibles. He is a team type of player who likes to work within the system, his ball-handling is better but still needs some attention but again his decision making with the ball in his midst is an area he really needs to concentrate on getting more productive. He is a solid defensive player on the ball and from the help side, he communicates and is decent on the glass for a smaller guard. By Andre Whitehead and savant Cylk Cozart plus instruction from local college coaches.

  • 2nd annual NUR Kentucky Camp
  • 6/25/16 to 6/25/16
  • Traveling all the way from Cleveland, Tennessee Desmond Simpson showed off his skills in our 2nd annual NUR Kentucky Camp. The 2018 Guard impressed our staff with his hustle and unselfish play. Simpson provided plenty of outlet passes to teammates setting up fast-break opportunities for efficient baskets. Make sure to tract Desmond at Cleveland HS as he enters his Junior season.

  • NC Phenom 150 Team Evaluations - Team 14
  • 3/06/16 to 3/06/16
  • No. 55 5’11 ’18 Desmond Simpson of Cleveland HS (TN) Desmond demonstrated an excellent attitude, basketball IQ and played with tremendous effort the entire day. However, we were most impressed with his team first approach to the game. He has good ball handling skills but was equally happy making the assist as he was scoring. Coach Doughty stated, “Desmond didn’t try to score a lot, however he made his presence known in other ways. He played great defense and moved well without the ball. He went after rebounds like a big man.” Overall, Desmond is your typical “glue guy” that every team needs and cherishes. He is going to do all the little things that often get overlooked but are necessary for team wins! As he continues to develop, he will need to become somewhat more aggressive scoring simply to keep the defenses honest.

  • 48. Desmond Simpson (Cleveland) 5'10 PG 2018 One thing about any type of camp setting is that the majority of the players in attendance will be guards. Guards from 5'8 to 6'0 that must do something to stand out amongst their peers. Simpson had a solid showing from the lead guard spot, he plays in constant motion, he gets back on defense and he seemed to embrace the rules we set forth on post entry and slowing down the tempo of the half-court possessions. He will need to command the ball more and as the point man get his team into their designed offense. He didn't shoot the ball from the perimeter so my assumption is making that this is an area he needs to work on. I like his demeanor and he is a kid who will fight for his playing time and will get his fair share with his commitment to the defense end of the floor.

In this event he showed his ability to hit shots both on the spot up and off the move. Developing full-time point guard skills will be critical for Simpson in future evaluations.

  • Desmond Simpson (Cleveland, Tenn.), Cleveland High School – 2018 CoachHemi: Simpson steadily improves from each time we see him in each camp. We had a chance to see Simpson first at the EBA All-American Camp last September. Today the freshman guard showed his touch on his jumper and connected on several 3-point jumpers while playing on the wing. He continues to add confidence with ball handling while always playing with tenacity on the defensive end. As he matures physically, his skill set should flourish.

  • By: @JLHemingwayPSB Desmond Simpson, Team 5, (Cleveland, Tenn.), Cleveland HS – 2018 Simpson continues to grow in skill and stature and he showed that at the EBA Fall Workout in October. The 5-foot-5 guard demonstrated confidence with the ball while playing hard on the defensive end. The key for the Tennessee native heading into the high school season will be to work on developing a specialty, which allow him to impact the game consistently each time he steps onto the court.

  • 9/20/14 to 9/20/14
  • #59 Desmond Simpson (Cleveland High School ) 5-5 PG 2018 Diminutive young player that has a decent feel for the game. Simpson is quick but needs to really focus on his ball-handling. At his size, valuing the ball will be vital for his continued growth as a player. He sees the floor and has the vision to make plays but lacks the strength to finish those chances. Offensively he seemed to defer to his teammates as a lot of younger players do in this setting, thus showing signs of becoming a leader. He had no trouble adjusting to the three-pass or post entry model we have the kids play in the opening games. He took to that naturally and seemed very comfortable making the right decision. • By: @JLHemingwayPSB Desmond Simpson – (Chattanooga, Tenn.) – Cleveland HS – 2018 Desmond-Simpson- of the advantages of the Elite Basketball Academy is to identify talent and potential before players hit the big stage. That is what our staff of evaluates observed with Simpson. The active, scrappy guard found ways to impact the game even while playing against players who were not only more mature, but also more experienced than him. He showed good instincts on the defensive end as he was able to get several deflections and turn those into offensive opportunities. With much physical maturity still left in front of Simpson, it is still too early to tell whether he will be a full time point guard or wing player. However, he did show skills that could point to him playing either position. He showed the ability to handle the ball with his head up while also showing solid form on his jumper. The real work is still in front of Simpson as he enters his first year of high school. We will keep a close eye on his development in years to come.

During the games he had limited touches of the basketball but when the opportunities were presented for him to make a few moves to the rack he did so aggressively. Overall, we loved his attitude and mindset to get better and we look forward to him returning to our camp in the future. Lamont Taylor CEO (GMR)
