Personal Statement

My name is Calum Foster and I am a junior at Newton High School in Newton, Texas.  I am the 2nd of 5 sons born to my parents.  I love working with my hands, so I am seeking a degree in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering.  I am currently ranked number 16 out of a class of 69 with a 3.3 GPA.  I am actively participating in Basketball, Football and Track.  I have lettered in all 3 sports at least 2 years and have earned honors in all 3 sports.  I may be smaller than your average college shooting/point guards but I am a hard worker who is determined to go above and beyond what is required of me.  My dad has always told my brothers and myself that in order to be the best, you must beat the best.  I've never been too intimated to compete against someone bigger, stronger nor faster than myself because I know that the competition will make me better.  The word most often stressed in our home is discipline.  My dad is always saying is, “without discipline you will not go anywhere in life.”  As I matured, the word discipline has stuck with me.  Even in sports, coaches always told us to be disciplined.  My dad has also stressed to us that no matter how good of a player that we may be, if you have a bad attitude, if you're not disciplined, then coaches will not want to deal with you.  When I was younger, I had a pretty bad temper because I hated to lose.  Well, I still hate to lose but with my parents correcting me, I think that I am a pretty mild manner guy.  I know that my game has room for improvement and I just desire to be a part of a school/team that will be willing to help me take my game to the next level.  My desire is to go to a great school and continue my education.  Being able to play college ball would be a sweet addition.
