Service to the Community:
The Saturday I volunteered at The Harbor Children’s Alliance and Victim Center, I managed a game booth and interacted with many kids and families. I felt happy to share my time. This experience allowed me to better understand what some kids and families may go through in an abusive situation and that all kids and adults should live in a safe and loving environment.
I have volunteered my time at the Calhoun County Humane Society, a flag posting event sponsored by the Port Lavaca Rotary Club, at Our Lady of the Gulf’s bake sale fundraisers during Lent, at the City of Port Lavaca’s Earth Day (trash pick-up activity), and for my neighbors (pulling trash and yard work during the week and on weekends). ActivitiesMy participation in extracurricular activities at school, out in the community, and in my church has made me a much rounded person. At a very young age, I began working in my church as a youth usher and participated in various youth ministries.
I enjoy playing many sports (soccer, track and field, and basketball), but my favorite is the game of basketball. I am a member of Calhoun County 4-H. Over the years, I have attended the 4-H sport-fishing weekend event and traveled with the skeet and trap shooting club.
I have a passion for math, reading, and music. I took high school algebra as an 8th grader which was challenging, but rewarded my spirit when I received the correct answers and aced a test. My reading was launched during my classroom experience with my former teachers. They encouraged me to read and enjoy reading every word on the page. My interest in music has grown throughout my elementary and junior high school years. Playing the piano, various musical instruments in band and the bells has given me a greater appreciation to accept my creative side of learning.
