Da’veon “Tank” Boatright
Highland Springs H.S.
Class of 2023
Born and raised in Richmond, Va. I grew up playing sports, mostly football, It was in middle school where I tried out and made the basketball team. Over a hundred kids tried out, I made the cut. The next year I played AAU travel basketball for the first time. It was that I have truly fell in love with basketball. I knew then that I no longer wanted to play football. I continued to play two sports up until 8th grade. Highland Springs H.S. is one of the top football high schools in Virginia, but I wanted to play basketball. Dad was a little disappointed, but he says he respects my decision because he sees the hard work and passion I display every single day on and off the courts. I dream of playing Pro in the NBA or overseas some day. Every kids dream, however I’m different because I don’t stop. Ball is definitely life. I’m working hard academically because I know that it’s gonna take more than just my performance on the courts to achieve the level of greatness that I aspire. Physically, I’m in great shape. I’ve been an athlete since the age of seven. I’m currently doing agility Agility and Plyo’s workouts twice a week and Basketball Skills Training twice a week. When I’m not working out on my body or game, I’m usually studying. Besides academics, I study basketball videos. I study the old greats and the up and coming. I study plays, and drills. Different styles of playing etc. I believe I’m very knowledgeable of the game and eager to learn more. Although I play small forward I believe I have great leadership qualities. I have great floor vision. I’m a team player, motivator, and regulator. I don’t quit. I’ve won and lost championships during crunch time. Im experienced in playing high level games under pressure. I believe with the help and guidance of my parents, coaches and my dedication and hard work. I will be fully prepared and ready at the next level.
I would like to study architect. I want to design new homes, buildings, and communities, I would like to make utility expenses more efficient and affordable. I would design parks and recreation so that all kids would have somewhere safe to play in their communities. Build and rebuild landscapes. Helping to shape the future of living on earth. I’m also interested in sports training, business, and a few others.
words from club coach:
Da’veon is a big forward that can change the game with his energy. Plays with a motor. Uses his body, very well, to shield off opponents and get off a clean shot at the rim. Great finisher with both hands. Very skilled at contesting & altering shots at the rim. Able to step out and make jumpers at a consistent clip. Da’veon has great instincts on the defensive end of the floor. Plays with active hands to get steals and deflections. He is constantly in position to run through passing lanes.
