Personal Statement
According to author Charles Swindoll, “The difference between something good and something great is attention to detail.” The little things in basketball are often what win games. Talking on defense; taking a charge; properly positioning oneself; diving for a loose ball. To be the best, one has to pay attention to details. My approach to basketball and to life is the same, always listening and working hard to get better at the little things. I love to play basketball, whether it is shooting with friends or in a state title game. In anything I do, I always pay attention to details, which is the easiest way to get better. Whether it is moving my foot a quarter of inch back on my jump-shot or meticulously planning my study schedule weeks ahead of time to accommodate basketball tournaments, paying attention to the little details benefits me greatly.
My collegiate goals are not only to be a successful basketball player, but also to become an outstanding student-athlete. One of my aspirations is to have an education that will make me successful during college and beyond in the field that I choose.
While starting in the NBA is unlikely, that won’t stop me from being a workhorse on the college courts.
I’m the type of player that tries to make everyone on the court perform better, whether I’m making a pass or competing on the defensive end of the court. I never try to overshadow or deteriorate the performance of anyone on my team. I’ve loved every teammate I’ve ever played with, but the teammates who challenge me to pay attention to the details are the people that help me be great.
