Hi my name is Gavin Atkins and I'm 17 yrs old. I am now a senior I currently attend Saint Francis Highschool, in Saint Francis, WI. I am no longer a student at Brown Deer Highschool in Brown Deer. WI. I transferred to Saint Francis Highschool for my 11th grade year for a few reasons. The most important reason was Saint Francis Highschool, is a college readiness school. My mom wanted too move to a safer area,to give me a better life. Also, the Varsity basketball team had a new head coach and was rebuilding the team. He has taken a chance on a kid he doesn't even know. He saw my strengths, abilities, personality traits that will get me to the next level.
My near future goal is to attend a very good 4yr university. I think every young athlete dreams of getting into a D1 school. But being the realist I am, I know that there are very good teams at the D2 and D3 levels as well. I am very open to playing in other divisions. The college basketball program is important, but the academics are even more so. I want to either become an accountant or a Doctor(probably a brain surgeon). I picked a brain surgeon because it is going to challenge me immensely. There is so little known about the brain, I am hoping I can make a huge impact on the medical community and the patients, maybe even the world.I also find the brain very fascinating and want to learn all I can about it to possibly save peoples lives. I picked the medical field, because it hits close to home. My mom was diagnosed with Severe Crohns when I was only 3 years old. Being in and out of Doctors offices and hospitals with my mom for my whole life. Has made me very empathetic and want to help people to survive diseases, live good quality lives, get the awesome care they deserve. At times my mom has received substandard care , just do to insurance. That to me should be a crime. I am also interested in possibly being an accountant. I have always been good in math, love dealing with numbers. I am currently taking Trigonometry and am at a B+.
I am a very unique, gifted and naturally talented individual. I know you probably have heard those words, from a lot from college prospects. Those words are the foundation of who I am. My single mom has instilled in me, to embrace my differences and the differences of others. I get along with anybody and everybody.I can adapt easily to different environments, coaches, team mates etc. I am always respectful to my teammates and coaches, teachers, parents etc. I am very team- orientated. I believe that if a team encourages each other always, the sky is the limit. Whatever a Coach tells me to do, I will do it at 140%. If its a skill or new position I need to learn or improve on. I will practice everyday until I have mastered it. Even if its just open gym, the only speed I can go is 100%. I give my all in the games, practice,in my school work and in life. I am a leader and possess leadership qualities. I was recognized with the Leadership Star, from the Varsity football coaches at Brown Deer Highschool in 2019. I was the only Sophmore to receive the star that year. I am grateful that my mom engrained in my mind, that I will be a leader and not a follower. I have never let her down. I am an extremley hard worker, I never complain. No matter how grueling or unpleasant it might be. I try to help my teammates in anyway possible. I am a beast at defense, I have been a Power Forward since 5th grade. I have been working on my guard skills for a yr an a half. I have improved my dribbling ball handling, passing and shooting. I am up for any challenge that comes my way. I will never back down. I am strong, resilient, caring towards people and animals in general. I am fearless on the court and in life. I have overcome and perservered through so many tough situations.I am a type of person that needs to be challenged. It drives me to up my game, and my skills. I want to be the best in whatever I do!!!!My goals in college are to excel in my classes. I aspire to play basketball on a college team. What the division is,I am open to. I want to earn the respect and trust of my coaches and teammates as well.
I feel I am different from other recruits in many ways. I am more mature than most kids in my grade. I don't goof around at school, because I am very focused on my grades. I also want to make sure my classes are the correct classes to be eleigible into the NCAA. I don't want my grades to be average. Average grades don't get into exceptionally good universities. As far as my character goes, I'm dedicated in no matter what its in. I'm an extremely hard worker. I never complain, I do as I am told. I am very passionate about basketball. I am a team player. I am always giving hi fives and helping teammates up , if they fall. I even help the other teams teammates. I am positive and encouraging towards my team. I am also a leader. Whatever team I make it on I know I would be the best player/teammate I could be. I'm willing to get on the floor get that loose ball, fight for the ball. I put my heart and soul in every game I play. I am a very coachable kid. I can adapt to any coaching style.
