Personal Statement

My name is John Pollard and I'm a senior at Arroyo Grande High School (AGHS) in Arroyo Grande, California.  My academics are very important to me because I know that how well I do in high school will impact the college I attend and my future.  I like to keep busy, work out, and stay strong -- both mentally and physically. In my first 3 years at AGHS, I competed in football, wrestling, and diving.   I have narrowed it down to just two sports as a senior because I wanted to spend more time focusing on diving.  I have competed at the varsity level in diving since I was a freshman -- qualifying for CIF team each year and making it as a finalist at CIF too.  This year, I placed third at California -  CIF Central Section and qualified for State.  Last year, I placed 8th at California - Southern Section CIF and was the first Alternate for State.  I try to increase my personal record every time I compete.  Diving comes most naturally to me because #1: it's non-combative (!), and #2: prior to high school, I was a competitive gymnast for 8 years.  I was the NCBGA Level 7 Northern California State Champion on still rings, vault, and pommel.  I know I have what it takes to help your diving team win. I am 100% committed to everything I do and I work hard.   I know what responsibility is.  I'm still undecided as to what path I'll take after college; but what I do know right now is, I definitely want to dive at the college level (and beyond).   My GPA this semester is 3.9 right now, and my cumulative/weighted GPA is 3.68.   At this point, I'm set on attending our local community college and competing in diving while  there as I earn my Gen Ed Certificate.  I will also get 3M board experience there.  In, 2022, I'll be looking for a college to complete where I can continue to compete and earn my bachelor's degree.
