I am currently a Senior in high school and dive for both my high school team the Hudson Raiders and a club team at the University of Minnesota. While there have been no competitions during my time at the U of M club this year because of Covid 19 I was able to complete my sophomore high school diving season this spring before schools shut down. I placed second at my High School Diving Sections and qualified for and participated in the Wisconsin State Swim and Dive meet. Only two years ago, I joined the swim and dive team with no experience and no gymnastics background, but I still instantly found a passion for diving even though I knew I had a lot to learn. Both the challenge of learning a new sport and the camaraderie of a great swim team is exciting to me.
My current GPA is 3.64 and my goal is to achieve a GPA of 3.8 my senior year. My college goal is to attend a four-year college with a great academic reputation to set myself up for a successful career. I have an interest in College ROTC programs for the Air Force as well. Academically I am interested in chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, and criminology. This year I am taking several AP courses and gaining college credits.
My athletic goal for my Senior year of high school is to place in the top five divers at the State meet and to support my teammates the best that I can. I would like to build on my diving successes in my Senior year. As soon as club diving can resume travel and competitions, I will be competing in both 1-meter and 3-meter events. After high school, my goal is to continue as a diver in college on the 1meter and 3-meter boards and as a platform diver.
Some of the things that make me an asset to any team are my strong work ethic and push to do better each time I get on the board. I do not let any weakness define me but rather use it as an opportunity to grow. I also believe it is important to support your diving family, last year I actively took on the role to mentor a new diver. At a meet, our coach submitted the incorrect dive list for my mentee, and he was called to do a dive he had never done before. My mentee was apprehensive to try a new dive at a meet so I talked to him before he could walk away or give up and encouraged him to do his best and let him know he could do the dive. He ended up completing the dive and did not have to take a failed dive and it was important to me that he felt successful.
I know that if given the opportunity that I would make any school and team proud to have a person like myself represent them and be a part of their diving family.
Also in between the videos I post on here I have an Instagram account where I post new dives and good videos as well, the handle is @cortflips
