I love competing in golf, currently for the Sunnyslope High School team, the local Encanto Golf Course Ping Team and individually in JGAA events throughout my home state of Arizona. I also occasionally play in Rocky Mountain and Hurricane Junior Tour events. I play in the US Kids Golf Teen World at Pinehurst each summer and was also fortunate enough to qualify and play in the US Junior Amateur in 2017.
I first began my competitive golfing career in Junior High as a 6th grader on the Veritas Prep Golf Team and earned a position as a starter on the undefeated Championship winning team and took 5th place in the league overall competing against 6th, 7th and 8th graders. A few years later I began playing in US Kids Golf tournaments, eventually winning 4 tournaments and finishing as a runner up numerous times. Those tournaments were what really prompted me into falling in love with the competitive nature of the game.
My primary goal is to play golf for a Competitive College Golf Team, preferably for a University with a great Architecture program. I am currently an honor student taking honors classes with a cumulative GPA of approximately 3.4
Other facts about me:
· I have been obsessed with sports as long as I can remember, playing baseball, football and soccer in addition to golf. This and having an older brother are the main sources of my very competitive nature.
· I am left-handed but have always played golf right-handed as it felt more natural to me.
· I am half Korean and my middle name is Un Chol, named after my mom’s dad who left North Korea as a refugee during the Korean War, eventually immigrating to the U.S., earning a Phd in Humanities and serving as Professor at Eastern Kentucky University for over 30 years. He is now retired and a published poet on the Korean War and Reunification.
