Personal Statement
I first began playing golf 2 years ago, just days prior to my sophomore year tryouts, I immediately fell in love with the game and was happy with my success of making the team. The coaches where unaware of my short tenure with golf and actually shared with my parents, that they were "surprised I had not previously tried out for golf, as it was obvious I had been playing for a while", so they were in total shock to learn that I had only been playing a few days prior to tryouts. A little over a month before my junior year tryouts I was determined to be a serious competitor, I knew I would need to focus all of my athletic energy on golf. At the time I was shooting 100-110 so I found a great golf instructor, Ann Finke, and I began weekly lessons for 2 months to better understand the fundamentals and mechanics of the swing. With Coach Finke's assistance and my drive I entered my junior year strong as I was shooting in the low 80s. Now I was able to build on what I had learned throughout the season which led to me placing 10th at high school regionals, earning the opportunity as the only Air Academy High School (AAHS) golfer in 2017 to represent our school at the Colorado High School Activities Association State Championships. My drive and dedication is also evident in academics and my citizenship as a AAHS student athlete. I would be honored to be part of a team that sets the standard of an exceptional collegiate athlete.
