Personal Statement
I started playing baseball when I was 6 years old and was extremely passionate about it until my concussion, broken foot, and broken arm limited my playing time. I started playing golf with my dad and his friends when I was 14 and quickly fell in love with the sport. I started playing competitively in the summer of 2016 and was at the driving range and putting green every morning and playing a round almost every afternoon. I tried out for our school's golf team that August and made the final spot on the JV team with scores of 110 and 109. The following year, I again made the JV team with scores of 97 and 95. This year, I earned the #1 spot on the JV team with scores of 92 and 90. After two tournaments, I earned a spot on the Varsity team where I shave an additional 6 strokes from my handicap. I finished the year as the #2 on our Varsity team with a handicap of 12. I was selected for Regionals where I shot an 83 and missed qualifying for State by one stroke. Over the course of 3 years, I have reduced my handicap from a 40 to 12. I am a constant student and continue to take lessons from our head coach in the summers and spend most of my free time at the range or putting greens. I absolutely love the game of golf and competing.
In college I hope to continue to play golf and continue to learn and improve my game while majoring in either Finance or Marketing. I have always enjoyed math and love how it directly correlates with golf. How am I going to take this next shot and what can I do to limit the challenges and successfully achieve my goal? Golf has taught me several life long lessons with the most important being that we all make mistakes and the most important part is how to rectify the mistake and turn it into a positive. Golf has become a very important part of my life. I look forward to finishing high school and moving on to college and continuing to learn, better myself as both an athlete and scholar, and play the game that I love.
