Personal Statement
Dear Coach,
I appreciate you spending the time to review my resume.
Since I was young golf has always been a part of my life, and I am proud to say it has come naturally. My parents are both golf professionals in the Colorado section. My mother is the Head Professional at Boulder Country Club and my father is the Director of Instruction at Ute Creek Golf Course in Longmont. While my parents have inspired me to pursue golf, I was never once forced.
At the age of eleven I decided to devote my spring, summer, and fall to golf, while playing competitive basketball in the winter. I had not played an 18-hole tournament round and I had not played from anything beyond the forward tees. I shot 118, but still walked into the clubhouse with my head held high. I found the game I love.
Throughout middle school I continued to play competitive basketball in the snowy Colorado winters, but I would often spend nights hitting balls into a net and putting on my families’ 15 x 4 putting green in the basement. In the summer I would wake up at six and go to Boulder Country Club with my mom and practice until four.
I currently attend Mead High School and am in the graduation class of 2019. I’ve decided to become a full time golfer. I wake up, go to school, get my work done in the library at lunch, go to weights, and come home and practice. I’m not a firm believer in the usage of social media, so I’ve deleted the apps from my phone around November of last year because I believe they propose distractions.
I admire work ethic more than any other quality on this planet, and that is why I look up to professional golfers such as Seve Ballesteros, Moe Norman, and Justin Thomas. Hard work will give me the best opportunity to chase the records of these great players.
Away from golf, I currently have a weighted GPA of 4.375 and an unweight GPA of 4.0. To be honest, I treat school like a competition and always try to be the best I can be. I intend to play professional golf, but I understand the importance of a good education. Above nothing else, school has taught me to manage my time, a skill my father constantly preaches its importance. I know this is supposed to be the non-golf section, but I love nothing more than traveling the country and learning new things about the game I love. Hitting a good shot under pressure is the greatest feeling in the world.
Winning at the next level has always been my dream and this is why I believe your University will not only bring unlimited possibilities, but also receive a student eager to improve both in golf and academics. There is never enough to learn about this game, but I believe being a part of your golf team will offer an invaluable opportunity to the development of my game, knowledge, and character.
I really appreciate you reading this under your very busy schedule.
Best regards,
TJ Shehee
