Personal Statement

I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Florida's Developmental Research School, P.K. Yonge (PK). PK has allowed me to be both academically challenged, as well as athletically. I have played on the Varsity golf team since the 6th grade, improving my scoring average every year.

Outside of golf, I like to play basketball recreationally and love going to the gym and working out 5-6 days per week. PK also offers a variety of other sports which I love attending regularly to support my school and close friends. I also enjoy attending as many University of Florida sporting events as possible throughout the year; especially football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and golf. Every Saturday morning that I don't have a tournament, I get up early to volunteer with the Gator Junior Golf Association, ages 4-8. Though this can be a challenge working with kids this young, I enjoy helping give back the game that has built me. This has taught me the importance of giving back. I also volunteer every year as a Standard Bearer at THE PLAYERS Championship. Lastly, I am heavily involved in my youth group at Greenhouse Church and attend service almost every Wednesday night.

While golf is super important to me, academics must come first. As a Sophomore, I am taking my second AP class, World History. My Freshman year I took AP Human Geography; this class was a challenge and pushed me, but I understand the need to take difficult classes. Starting my junior year, I plan to dual enroll at Santa Fe College (SFC) and work towards obtaining my AA Degree at the same time I graduate high school. At PK, we have to complete a senior year research project in order to graduate. So even though all of my academic classes will be at SFC, I will be required to return to campus daily for the research project class. This will allow me to still get the high school experience and allow me to see and check in on my friends daily. I am the type of person that can get along with anyone I meet and I care about the well-being of everyone.

Going to SFC will prepare me academically for college allowing me to smoothly transition into a college or university for both academics and golf. As of now, my options for where I want to attend are wide open, but I am looking for a competitive program where coaches, teammates, and administrators become friends on and off the course. I have not firmly decided on a major as of now, but am interested in Kinesiology, Golf Course Design, or the Professional Golf Management Program.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • FJT Rocky Bayou Open (13-18)
  • 10/03/20 to 10/04/20
  • Back to Back Runner-Up finishes in FJT tournaments. I shot 76 in Round 1 and had the only under par round of Round 2 in the 13-15 year old division shooting a 71. I started day 2 in 3rd place, 8 shots out of the lead and 7 shots out of second and fired a back 9, 33 to finish solo 2nd, 7 back of 1st and 2 shots in front of 3rd. I finished tied for 9th in all boys age groups.
  • Camp/Event
  • FJT IMG Academy Open (13-15)
  • 9/26/20 to 9/27/20
  • I shot 73, 67 (4-Under total) to finish solo 2nd, in a field of 48 players, with a course rating of 71.4, playing at 6,573 yards. I fought really hard to get into solo 2nd after a devastating 3 over through my last 3 holes of round 1. Coming into round 2 I thought a 66 might be able to get me into the playoff, I came up 1 short of my number, but lost by 5. Really proud of how I played and how I handled my emotions at the highs and the lows
  • Camp/Event
  • Florida Junior Tour Stone Creek (13-18) *Exempt 54 Hole Major*
  • 9/05/20 to 9/07/20
  • I had a very steady tournament shooting 73, 74, 73 on a course that played just over 7,000 yards with a course rating of 73.9. My ball striking was very good, I just was unable to get many putts to fall only making 5 birdies all weekend, putting me in a tie for 26th out of a field of 55 players ages 13-18 years old.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Arnold Palmer Invitational Junior
  • 7/28/20 to 7/30/20
  • I played in the Sunday Qualifier at Orange Lake Resort The Legends Golf Course and shot 70 (2 Under Par) birding the 18th hole to grab one of the six qualifying spots beating many other college recruits. I was the youngest player in the field at 15 years old and finished 40th out of 54 players. I shot 44-37=81 (Day 1) 38-36=74 (Day 2) 37-39=76 (Day 3) from almost 7500 yards with a course rating of 75.2 on the Friday-Sunday pin placements from the professional tournament
  • Camp/Event
  • FJT Indian Spring (13-15) 54 Hole Major
  • 7/20/20 to 7/22/20
  • From 6,700 yards with a course rating of 75.3 I shot 38-39=77 (Day 1) 37-37=74 (Day 2) 37-37=74 (Day 3). Shooting six nine hole scores that were better than the tournament average nine holes scores
  • Camp/Event
  • FJT Mission Inn Open (Boys 13-15)
  • 7/02/20 to 7/03/20
  • After a very rough start, being seven over through my first seven holes and shooting 42 on my first front nine, I put it behind me and proceeded to be one over through my next 29 holes shooting a back nine 38 for a first round 80. Starting towards the bottom of the leaderboard on day two I shot two even par 36 nines to tie the lowest tournament score at 72 and work my way into a tie for six and only finish 6 back. The course played 6,800 yards with a course rating of 73.8
  • Camp/Event
  • Boys Junior North Florida PGA Championship
  • 6/15/20 to 6/16/20
  • In a field with 108 players, ages 13-18, playing from 6,550 yards, with a course rating of 71.6 I shot 37-36=73 (Day 1) 38-36=74 (Day 2) to finish 3 over for the tournament and tied for 26th overall
