Personal Statement
Hi my name is Payton Davis, and I am a student athlete. It is certainly a difficult task to manage life among practicing golf; working in the gym; traveling and participating in tournaments; doing the heavy workload at school; taking part in clubs as well as service projects; preparing for college entry tests such as the ACT and SAT; and studying for exams, but I am up for the challenge. Time management is of upmost importance to me in successfully completing the many goals I have set. With only so much time in a day, I must focus my time to areas where I am currently lacking. Unlike many of the people I know, I do not make it easy for myself to simply breeze through high school and spend all of my time on sports. I am a true student athlete and give 100 percent not only to golf but most importantly to my academics. Through taking rigorous honors and dual enrollment classes, I feel I will be better prepared for the future. My hard work and dedication are paying off as I am currently at the top of my class. I believe myself to be a future asset to colleges for my actions in and out of the classroom. I try to be looked upon by my classmates, friends, and family as a kind and humble young man who shows respect and integrity to others. I received the Character Award and the Principal’s Award for my diligence and persistence to be a leader and example for others. On the golf course, I pride myself on keeping my composure when things do not go my way. In my opinion, someone who can stay calm and continue to grind on a bad day sets himself apart from the others. For a long time, I had struggled on being small for my age; I did not hit the ball a long way, and it was difficult to scrape out a decent score at long distances as I got older. Even so, I have finally hit a growth spurt and I am at a reasonable size. I have spent time in the gym strengthening myself and doing golf related workouts and stretching. I feel that I am finally at a position where results should finally begin to show and am on the verge of a breakthrough. I strive to become the Next College Student Athlete that colleges would be pleased to have on their campuses and golf team.
