Personal Statement
Whether I consider my years of golf six days per week or chess four days per week, I have learned what dedication and leadership does for me as well as others on the teams around me. Specifically, the past three and a half years of high school have been a constant learning experience as well as quite a challenge but nothing compares to searching for a college and planning my future. Golf, academics, family and competitive chess have made me who I am today but the next four years will raise the bar in terms of challenges, commitment and rewards. I love golf and want very much to contribute to a team but if I am fortunate enough to play in college, the school I attend must be the appropriate school for my plans to pursue engineering. As captain of the HPHS varsity golf team as well as a leader and four year member of the HPHS varsity chess team, I have learned a few very important things about work and the role my mind plays. Being lucky to have the ability to train and compete is one thing but hard work does pay off and whether you are studying for a test, hitting wedge or planning for a checkmate five moves ahead, your skills are only half the equation; the other half is your mental game. I can confidently say that I have now learned to manage my mental game and I am able to pass that along to the younger guys that I work with on the chess and golf team.
