Personal Statement
Growing up, my life revolved around basketball and baseball. Golf was not in the picture, as it was only something I would do once every summer. I traveled the country playing baseball (even went to Cooperstown, NY) and would spend hours in the driveway shooting hoops. My mom says my first word was ‘ball’. I loved all types of sports, but the game of golf wasn’t introduced until just recently.
I’m from a small town in central Illinois and a class size of just 57. The fall sport at my school is only football, but luckily, we co-op golf with a nearby town. I made varsity my freshman year and worked my way up to the 2 man, but still thought of golf as just a hobby, not a passion or a lifestyle. I was the 1 man by my sophomore year. By now, I was hooked. I began spending my extra summer hours working on developing my golf game, and the improvements soon followed.
This past year, my Junior year, I learned the true aspects of becoming a leader and piloted my team to success. I broke 9 school records, was a medalist 8 times and placed 1st at Regionals and 10th at State. I’m now looking for a program that can boost my talents both athletically and academically.
I had my first job opportunity last summer at a local country club. I drove 60 miles a day to work on this beautiful golf course. By the end of the summer I was working 40 hours a week and helping set up tournaments at 5 am, yet it didn’t seem like work.
I know I can help your team. I just started playing golf and have room for improvement. I can be molded. I am a leader but listen to my elders. I am a straight A student and ranked 1st in my class. I am involved in the National Honor Society, president of the SADD club and active in other groups and organizations. I travel to Florida every summer with my youth group for a chance to sing and worship. I also enjoy 4-wheeler rides, Buffalo Wild wings, Fortnite and hanging with friends. I have been raised in the country with a family that believes in hard work ethic.
I have fallen in love with golf. I still enjoy basketball and baseball, but golf is a sport that makes my heart race, palms sweat and yet puts my mind at rest. With my talents, leadership, and work ethic, I have what it takes to not only fit into your program but make an instant impact that will further your team’s success.
