Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Deokwon, but I prefer to go with Johnson. I live in Los Angeles, and I have played golf for 5 years. It is the love of my life, and it would be a dream come true for me to be able to play college golf. As a student-athlete, I have learned what it means to be a responsible and hard-working student. I have kept a 4.0 GPA throughout my high school career, and I have developed a work ethic that allowed me to go from a 15 handicap golfer to a +1 golfer within a year and a half. Although I have not yet had much tournament experience or had the best results, I am positive that I will continue to improve myself as I have over the past few years and become a great candidate for high-level college golf. When given a chance, I have learned to never waste it and give it my all to succeed. Coming from a low-income Korean-American family and the oldest of 4 children, I have learned to lead others around me and set an example to my siblings. In my current high school, I have won the president's education award program 3 times for outstanding academic excellence, and the principal's honor roll 4 times. I can assure you that falling behind academically is something that you will never have to worry about for me. If I am given a chance to play for your team, I can assure you that I will not only be the hardest working player but will also be an example on and off the course to others. Thank you!
