I feel that my defining characteristic is my desire to prove wrong all those who underestimate me. All my life, I have been considered small. Up until this past year, I have been at least a foot or more shorter than others my age, and, because of this, people believed I would not be able to achieve what my peers could. I knew they were wrong. With my own confidence and the support of my family, I not only equaled those around me, but often bested them. During my years of youth sports, I was recruited for All Star Regional teams in soccer, lacrosse and hockey, all the while hearing from the sidelines, "Look how tiny #77 is!" Even without a number on my back, I was able to change people's minds as a 7th grader on the Varsity Golf Team. It has been a great motivator to see the doubt on spectators' faces turn to shock and amazement.
My drive to excel is the reason I am so passionate about golf. Golf continues to challenge me both mentally and physically, and I can't get enough of trying to "beat the game". It has taught me discipline, emotional control, and furthers my capability to persevere. These are the qualities I will bring to my golf team and to the classroom.
