Hello my name is Tanner Hermanson. I am a senior at South Eugene High School (6A) in Eugene, Oregon and I will be graduating in June, 2018. The first time I was introduced to golf was as a toddler when my dad would take me golfing and I would crawl out and place the ball on the tee at the driving range for him to hit. When I was 5 years old, he sawed off a seven iron down to my size and I would hit a plastic ball around with me everywhere I went. I would beg both my parents to stop at any golf course that we drove past so that I could get out and putt on their practice green. Golf was literally love at first sight for me and fueled by a desire to become the best I could be from a young age.
I have been focusing on playing competitive golf for about 4 years now. I am not your average golfer though, I have taken a few lessons over the years and love working with my coaches to improve my skills and incorporate new techniques, but I have been largely self-taught. I have been and continue to be a student of the game and always looking to learn more about the golf swing as well as the mental aspects of the game. I have played countless rounds and tournaments, and met many friends and charismatic people along the way in my journey through golf. There is never truly down time, as I am always working diligently to improve my game by improving physically as well as mentally on and off the course.
As a freshman (2014-2015) I was #1 on Junior Varsity (JV) Golf Team and won about half of the tournaments and placed second in the others. Sophomore year (2015-2016) I was promoted to the Varsity Golf Team and worked my way up to the #3 position by the end of the year and was awarded Lowest Stroke Average. Junior year (2016-2017) I was a steady #3 on Varsity and the co-captain of our team as I helped the team make a run to state. This year (2017-2018 my senior year) I am in the #2 position, close behind 1st on the Varsity Golf Team.
Golf is not the only area I hold myself to a high standard in, academically I have maintained a 3.87 GPA while taking a rigorous schedule of classes, I have been in the Honor Society (2016-2018). I have worked both in the community doing volunteer work various organizations and have caddied at the Eugene Country Club for a number of years.
This summer and this following year I plan on taking a developmental gap year as I plan to continue to work on my golf game both physically and mentally, playing in tournaments and caddying for ECC as well as taking 2-3 classes at the local community college to stay in shape both athletically and academically. I look forward to working hard and the opportunity of continuing my journey as a student-athlete to play college golf for the 2019-2020 school year.
