Personal Statement
I have been playing golf competitively for the last 6 years. I love the competition and challenge that the game has to offer. I am looking for a college where I can contribute to the golf team as well as improve my own abilities. My educational goals are also extremely important. Engineering is my planned area of study, so I would prefer to attend a college that offers a very strong engineering program.
Starting in 6th grade, I played as the number four man on the team, then in 7th grade I moved up to play in the number 2 spot, and finally 8th grade year I played as the number 1. At the start of high school I played number 2 on the varsity team. At the region tournament my freshman year, I shot a 79 and was placed in a three way playoff for the last individual spot to attend the state tournament. That playoff gave me a hint as to what it would be like to play in front of a crowd with all eyes on me. The two other guys in the playoff were both seniors, and although I did not win the playoff, I learned a tremendous amount about who I am as a golfer and that this sport is definitely my sport.
I made the All-District team the next three years of high school, and my scores improved every year. Although my educational and athletic goals are both very important, my education is of the utmost importance. I hope to play golf at the college level but earning an engineering degree from a reputable school is my primary goal.
My life outside of school and golf is filled with many things. I love to hike, rock climb, attend church, and spend time with my family and friends. I also like to play other sports such as tennis and ultimate frisbee. Access to these things may also play into my college decision. Thank you for your interest in me as a college student-athlete.
