My name is Roy Barrera IV. I will be graduating in 2022 from Champion High School in Boerne, Texas. Playing golf at the collegiate level has been my goal since 8th grade.
Prior to that time, I excelled in a variety of other sports. I played year round select baseball on a very competitive and highly accomplished team that made the state playoffs several years in a row. I played lead off batter and center fielder. I also played league football, school football (running back), and school track (100m hurdles and sprint relay).
Although I enjoyed competing in all the above-mentioned sports for many years, I developed a love for the game of golf. My great-grandfather, who hosted a yearly family reunion golf tournament, first introduced me to golf. This yearly event became known as the “Schneider Cup,” which was the family name. I am part of a very large family and the coveted bragging rights to compete in the “Schneider Cup” made for a highly competitive and fun-filled annual family tournament. When I was finally old enough to play from tee to green in this annual event, my initial goal was to avoid being dead last. I played well and realized that competitive golf was more exhilarating than the other sports in which I had previously participated.
At 14, I decided to solely focus on my golf game. I had numerous goals, including competing with my peers who had been playing competitively, for several years. Within one year I shot under par in a tournament, and several months ago I finished 1st in a field of over 104 competitors.
I consider myself to be very competitive, a team player, and extremely goal oriented. With a vast interest in pursuing my dream to be a part of a college team, I would very much appreciate an opportunity to play for your school's Golf Program.
