Personal Statement
My name is Matt Vierra. I'm an aspiring college golfer who is growing in the game and committed to take it to the next level. Beyond college, I plan to attend law school and possibly work in law enforcement. While I prepared to competitively swim in high school, I immediately took a liking to golf after a round with a friend. The game fits me: it’s continuously mobile, outdoors, and has clear rules, decorum, and honor. I practiced daily the summer before my freshman year and earned positions on both the swim and golf teams. I competed in both sports for one year, and even after being awarded JV Swimmer of the Year, I followed my passion and now focus only on golf; I spend 25-30 hours a week at the course and cannot imagine my days without it.
I would be an asset to your team because I am coachable and work well with others. I know the importance of achieving in the classroom as well as a being a dedicated player. My clear understanding that nothing is free sets me apart from others; I know that things are not just given to you; as a player, you can't just wait for good scores to come on the golf course, you have to work for them. And while it might not always be comfortable, failure does not stop me when I have decided to master something. I go after my goals with determination. When not golfing or studying, my weeks include working in an outdoor services at a local country club; other hobbies include hunting, fishing, cycling, and spending time with my friends.
