As long as I can remember, I’ve always been able to pick things up pretty quickly, whether it was learning to ride a dirt bike, playing hockey, snow boarding or throwing a baseball, athleticism came naturally for me. It was no different the first time I swung a golf club. I remember how comfortable it felt and how folks commented on my natural swing. As I got older and golfed more, I realized that golf was that ONE sport I wanted to stick with and get much better at. I fell in love with the fundamentals of the golf game and the mental challenges and competitiveness that are needed to succeed. As a student with Dyslexia, setting personal goals and practicing to achieve them is something I am very familiar with. I’ve had to work extra hard academically and have also had to learn the importance of self- advocating for myself. Overcoming the challenges of having a learning difference has turned out to be great preparation for the hard work and dedication it takes to continually improve on the golf course!
This year, I made the decision to transfer from the Shelton School which I attended since 5th grade, to Spring Creek Academy. Spring Creek Academy is a leading private school for the gifted, talented and highly motivated student. Its half-day program is one where a full academic schedule is compressed into one half the time. This exceptional education, in a highly focused venue, with fewer distractions enables me the flexibility to practice and play a lot more golf! This additional time spent training, practicing, playing and competing, I believe will help me become a better golfer and hopefully allow me the opportunity to play college golf.
Education has always been a top priority for me and my family. In addition to achieving good grades, my parents have always encouraged my sister and I to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and risk takers. Although grades are very important, my parents have also instilled in me, the belief that changing, adapting and overcoming are essential to both personal and professional growth. Every day, I am reminded of this, as I look over my goals that are posted on my bathroom mirror. No two days are ever alike, in order to succeed you must always strive to be better then the day you were yesterday. I am committed to myself, my coaches and teammates (past, present and future) and will continue to strive to be better then I was yesterday, everyday!
