Personal Statement
My name is Nick Krantz, and I’m 17 years old. I was born in Denver, CO, and that’s where I started playing golf. When I was 7 years old, my family moved to Oak Harbor, WA, where we live now. Competitive golf began for me in 7th grade, but before that, I played lots of competitive soccer and baseball. Right now, I am a Junior and go to Oak Harbor High School and play golf and tennis there, both at the varsity level. Although I ran on the varsity cross country team my freshman year, I didn’t enjoy it that much so I tried tennis the next year. I ended last tennis season as our school’s number one player, made it to Districts, but did not make it to State. For golf, I’ve played in the Washington Junior Golf Association (WJGA) since 7th grade. 8th grade was the first year I went to State and have gone every year since. For high school, I went to State my freshman and sophomore years; last year, I made the cut and placed 24th. For the rest of my high school career, I am working hard to make it to State as a junior and a senior.
Academically, I have taken all honors classes through my freshman and sophomore year. My strongest subjects are math and science. As a junior, I am 2 years ahead in math, currently taking Calculus and will take it for college credit 2nd semester. I am also currently taking AP Chemistry. For college, I am looking for a 4 year school, but I don’t know what I want to major in yet; most likely, something in the sciences.
I have played a lot of sports throughout my childhood and was talented in a lot of them; however, I chose to pursue golf. I have a passion and a love for the game, and I enjoy learning more about the game every day. I value integrity as does golf, making it a good match for my personal value system. I am a teachable and trainable athlete and know that with more training I will continue to improve. My current swing coach has been named as one of the Pacific Northwest’s best coaches, so I am fortunate and thankful to have a good teacher. My goal is to play golf at the collegiate level, and I am steadily working towards that goal.
