Hi, my name is Thatcher Walthall, I am from Woodville, Wisconsin with a population of 1300 people. I golf for Baldwin-Woodville high school, and I am going to be a senior in high school. I started my golf journey in my sophomore year of high school after playing baseball almost all my life all the way up through my freshman year. After deciding to join golf I knew right away that it would be hard to become a good golfer due to that fact that not only golf is a super hard sport but also because I tore my ACL just two months before the season. I worked hard everyday to get back to where I wanted to be and was lucky enough to be able to golf in the first varsity tournament of the year. Due to my injury my doctor only allowed me to use my irons in the first few tournaments and I persevered to shoot around bogey golf in those events. I also displayed my leadership skills in my first year by becoming a captain of the team. Throughout the season I got better and better and averaged a score of around a 42-44 on 9 holes and 87-90 on 18 holes.
Going into my junior year golf season(my second year of competitive golf) I worked so hard at improving my game by practicing almost everyday whether it is in a simulator or outside on a real course. I had high hopes for the season and thought that I was getting to the high level golfer that I aspired to be. In my junior season I averaged around a 39-41 on 9 holes and a 80-83 on 18 holes. Throughout this summer I have worked daily at improving my game and am starting to become the high caliber golfer that I want to be. My scores have dropped tremendously to where I am shooting around even golf. Some of the goals that I have in mind for my senior season is becoming an ALL-Conference golfer and also posting scores that are around even golf or even below.
I think that I am different to other golfers because I started this journey so late and I am already posting scores that are pretty low. I have such a high ceiling and I hope that coaches can will be able to see that. All though golf is something that I am very passionate about I hope that I will find a college that not only has a good golf program, but a good academic program. I also want to have a coach that can not only teach me things about golf but also mentor me outside of golf.
