Personal Statement

Dear Coach's,

My name is Cole Morgan, and I am a 15-year-old playing left defence. I have primarily played left wing throughout most of my hockey career; however, my coach moved me to the defensive line mid-season in 2022, and I have been playing defence ever since. My size and strength make me well-suited for this position, but I am willing to play wherever needed (except for goalie—Haha) for the benefit of the team. I've been on skates since I was 2; my grandpa played for the Canadian National team and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, so maybe hockey runs in my blood. I started playing hockey when I was 5, and I've always loved the sport. Since childhood, I've never complained about practice or going to the rink.

When reflecting on my qualities on the rink, I see myself as a leader; I lead by example, and my teammates respect me for it. I am a composed player who prioritizes positional play. I possess a powerful and precise shot from the blue line, and I take pleasure in generating opportunities for my teammates. I skate fiercely and can effectively shut down my opponents physically. I am undoubtedly a team player and always prioritize my team over individual recognition. Last season, I was called up for Provincials and played defence, wing, and center, adapting to whatever the team required.

I have been attending Strathcona Tweedsmuir School, an International Baccalaureate institution, since grade 1, and I will finish high school there. The curriculum is demanding, but I am committed to receiving a solid education. Balancing academics and sports can be intense, yet I embrace the challenge. I engage in volleyball and basketball year-round, and I excel in shot put and javelin during the track and field season. I dedicate myself to both my studies and athletics.

Bottom line, I love hockey and am working hard to have an opportunity to play in college.
