Tanner Komzak '20 Recruiting Profile

My Name is Tanner Komzak, I play defense R/L  for the Whitecourt Wolverines in the Alberta Jr. hockey league  (AJHL) for the 2022/23 Season.

I am an Assistant captain  on our team on defence playing upwards of 25 hard minutes (corners, defensive zone, PK) per night in my 4th year of Jr hockey. 2 years in the BCHL. I am a Penalty Kill and lock down specialist playing at key points in the game for our team. I pride myself on being able to shut down top NHL Draft picks and Div 1 college commitments.  I make their night difficult

 I played my rookie season for the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL.  I had a successful season as a rookie playing in 39 regular season and 1 playoff game. 

I  graduated two years ago with a 3.30 GPA . My goal is to play NCAA Div 1 hockey and take Business/Commerce as my major.  I have been talking to both NCAA Div 1 and NHL teams and hope to commit this coming year or next to a College. 

What makes me different? For starters, I'm a 6'4" 210 lbs Right shooting defenceman (only getting bigger). I've been told by scouts there are not a lot of BIG RIGHT SHOOTING DEFENCE!  I am a skilled skater, and am a strong skilled passer. I can skate the puck out of my zone if needed. I am very good at jumping into the play to add to the offence and get back into position.  I have also been told I have a heavy NHL type of shot. Unfortunately, I have a pass first mentality when at times I could take the shot. 

My academics is something I am very proud of! While I may have not taken my studies as serious in grade 9 or 10 as I should have, My grade 11 and 12 marks have been a consistent A or high B. I understand the value of my education and dictate a lot of my off time concentrating on learning new things.  I am not one you will need to worry about to get my work done.

While a lot of coaches look for the shiny star who gets the points. If you are looking for the defence to shut the other teams top players down I would love to talk to you.
