Personal Statement
Athletics has been a part of my life since I was in pre-school. I have learned leadership, teamwork, determination, hard work and confidence while participating in sports. These life skills have been very important in my life. With the death of my Dad and other family members, I was able to get through the hard times because sports gave me an outlet for my grief. These same skills will be beneficial when I am in the work force. They will give me the ability to be successful in any job. In addition to these life skills, it has provided me a way to maintain a healthy body and mind. During last year when we had to stay out of school, I have learned how important exercise was in my life. It helped me to relax and gave me time to think in order to get my mind in the right place due to the isolation. Hockey has been a great team sport for me. Every team and coach that I played for has given me news skills that has helped me understand the game more and develop me as a player. I also have met lifelong friends who were there for me during the good and bad times. If I had the opportunity to become a collegiate student athlete, it would be another step in my dream to play hockey in college. But, just as important it would prepare me and give me the tools to become successful in whatever career that I chose and whatever life throws at me. Being an athlete would give me the opportunity to belong to a team. Team work teaches goal making and the ability to work with a variety of people. In addition, I would develop adaptability, persistence, determination and the ability to listen, take advise and budgeting my time so that I have time for school work, athletics and work. It would help me pursue something I love dearly. My love of hockey started when I saw my first game. By the time I laced up my first pair of skates, I was hooked. . I hope that playing college in college will continue my development in this sport.
