Hi, my name is Rico Ramirez and I aspire to play Men's Ice Hockey during my time at college. My goals are to pursue a degree in Computer Science. Academically I have tested and am in the top percentile for Math and English in Illinois; as well as top 25 percent in the country. I have been placed in accelerated Math and English since the 3rd grade. I am currently in 11th grade and eager to be challenged academically at Fenton High School.
I have always been small in stature, but that is what makes me work harder than the rest. I have been able to use my size and speed to my advantage. My size does not affect my ability to grind 1v1 in the corners, or on 2v1, 3v1 breakaways. I enjoy those challenges because I am usually the winner. I take pride and it actually makes me laugh when my opponent loses the battle.
Due to my hard work and leadership abilities, my coaches have awarded me with the title of being team captain or assistant captain for 3 out of the last 4 seasons. Although my primary position is defense, I have been utilized as a right wing. Coaches have often told me that my hockey IQ and vision is different from others. My vision on the ice and puck placement often leads to great scoring opportunities. I am able to read the players from both teams; which allows me to set up my next move before given the opportunity.
