Personal Statement

I'm a 6,0'  160 lb ice hockey player, I think this is a good advantage for me on the ice. I am one of the fastest kids on my high school team even as a freshman and sophomore. I am extremely solid on my feet, and when knocked down I get right back to my feet to fight for the puck, I have been told that I am the prime forechecker of my high school team, this is because I believe in FTP ( First to Puck ) things happen when you win races to the puck.
Ice Hockey is by far my greatest passion, I play for my coaches, family, and myself. Ever since I was little my coaches commended me on how smart of a player I was, also on my skills with passing the puck setting up other teammates. See my aim isn't to score goals, it's to make sure my team gets goals, I couldn't care less on how the puck goes in or who puts it there. All I want is for that puck to be in the back of the opposing team's net.
I was a captain of my 1996 AAA Maine Sternmen team a few years back, I never put people on the team down for mistakes, I only give them advice and/or cheer them up so they do well the next shift. Every chance I get I will block a shot, I believe in the benefit of the team even if it means sacrificing the body.
I had gone up to P. E. I. last summer to improve my game, whenever my schedule wasn't full of working out and puck skills, instead of sitting in the dorm watching T. V. I would go up to the shooting room and work on my shooting form.
I am looking for a DI or D3 college in which I could be a contributing member of the team. Hockey is my biggest passion and to be able to play in college would be a dream come true. A big school is my preference, I love competitive hockey, the higher the competition the harder I will work to make a difference. I also take my academics very seriously, taking honors classes whenever I can. If hockey doesn't work out for me I would like to be an astrophysicist or astronomer.
I do not come from a family with an excellent financial standing, they struggle to pay for me to compete on AAA travel teams because they know I love it. I wouldn't be anywhere if it wasn't for them and I try my hardest every game because I know what they have to go through to let me play this game. This being said it would mean I would need financial aid to get into a big DI or D3 school.
Again saying I wish to major in Astronomy or Astrophysics these are my greatest interests as a student. My dream in life is to play in the NHL, obviously this is many kids' dreams, however a more realistic goal for me would to play at a very competitive level of hockey in which I could skate with. No sense in playing at a level where my presence would be unknown. However I do believe when given a chance to improve at a level of hockey I would posses the drive to do it.
