Personal Statement
My name is Nicholas Gregg and I am a Sophmore at Plymouth South High School. I have always considered myself as the kid overlooked. For me to get noticed as a hockey player, I had to work twice as hard as everyone else. But when I finally did get noticed, I was called up to varsity at the end of the season to play in the State Tournament. That just makes me want to work even harder to make varsity right away next year. I want to continue my career after High School to play hockey in College or Juniors if necessary.
When I play hockey, I play a disciplined game. I never get into fights and always listen to my coaches and captains. I am a very coachable player that learns very quickly. My preferred position is center because they are considered the third defenseman. I am a utility player who can play any position, forward or defense. As a playmaker, I am usually looking for the man down the ice to pass to, or to make a play in front of the net. When I don’t have the puck, I look for the open ice to receive a pass or get into a position to tip a shot. Playing shorthanded is my favorite time on the ice because that’s where I show my speed.
When I am not playing hockey, I am usually playing soccer which is my second favorite sport. I play goalie and sometimes midfielder. I like to run, so practices are no sweat when it comes to conditioning. During practices, when everyone else is tired from running, I still have some in the tank. My fastest mile is 5 minutes 37 seconds. I also play tennis, which I just started last year year and made the seventh and final spot on varsity made up of all seniors. I am hoping it will help with my agility and hand to eye coordination for hockey. As a hobby, I also play the Alto saxophone in the High School band.
I take all Honors classes in school and I am achieving a very high GPA. As an elective, I am taking the Human Body syastems of Biomedical Science, which is my favorite challenging class. I am looking for a good College or University where I can continue my studies in the medical field or in science, and continue to play hockey.
