Shayne King '25 Recruiting Profile

My Name is Shayne King. Since I started playing ice hockey when I was four years old.  As a seventh-grade student-athlete, my family and I felt it is time to be prepared for college and the process of selecting a school that is right for me both academically and athletically.

I have always dreamed of playing hockey at the collegiate level ever since playing at Merrimack College for the Parity Tournament for My Club Hockey Team in Massachusetts during the spring of 2018. I hope to reach the highest level of hockey such as division 1 college hockey. What makes me different is I have many dimensions to my game.  I play very physical as a defenseman with poise and control both in the defensive and offensive zone as well as the neutral zone.  With me, you get a strong and physical player who has a no quit attitude and is an enforcer. As a Defenseman, I had to learn how to be aggressive and stay out of the penalty box.  This took training and practice.  My ambition is to be a leader and be role model on and off the ice.

I consistently am a member of the honor roll at my middle school.  I excel at Math (Honors) and reading.  It is notable to mention that last year, during my 12-year old year, my club baseball team traveled to Cooperstown, NY for a National All-Star Baseball Tournament.   The tournament organized a skills event, and I was voted by my teammates to represent by my team for the base running skills.  I ranked 5^th out of 164 participants along with leading my team with home runs with 9 (7 games) and top 20 out of over 700 players. I have been praised by all of my hockey coaches about applying my speed on the ice as well.
