In 2018, I left my hometown in California to continue my high school education and pursue higher level of hockey in New England. My journey has taken me from Winchendon School, MA to Rice Memorial School, VT. These 3 years have been rewarding and challenging times, especially with the pause in sport activities due to the pandemic. Fortunately in Vermont, I was able to attend classes in person. I have maintained above average grades, and continue to challenge myself with AP courses each year. My favorite areas of study are math, history and music. Although the pandemic impacted my team’s game schedule, I was able to get enough ice time through team practices and workouts. During a scrimmage, I was hit from behind and injured my ankle. While this was set back this year, I worked hard and steady to full recovery. I am excited and ready for my second appearance at the USHL combine in May, 2021 (Green Bay, WI).
My first year in bantam was my real breakout year for my hockey development. I made the California Select roster which gave me the opportunity to participate in the USA Hockey Western Regional High Performance Camp. That year made me realize that I have potential play at AAA level and beyond. My second bantam season, I was fortunate to play for the California Golden Bears under coach Peter Torsson. We won the California state title and placed third at the USA Hockey National Championships. Under coach Torsson, I learned what it takes to be an elite player and the different paths a player can take to earn a spot on a Division I college program. I chose the prep school path which allows me to play high level hockey while also getting a quality high school education.
Some key attributes that I see myself having is that I'm a hard worker with a strong work ethic. I practice and train every chance I get. There were times pre season or post season, a coach would call for an early morning or after school work out, I would be the only one to show up. I believe that things are earned through hard work. I also understand that it is also extremely important to be a student of the game and to be constantly learning. This is why I value every bit of advice I get from coaches because it is important to always be open to new ideas and ways of doing things when suggested by coaches. My Rice Prep coaches know I can play in any role they need me in. I see myself as a versatile player: know how to protect the house and create odd man rushes that lead to scoring opportunities. To tie both those attributes together, I see myself as a determined, mature student athlete. If I'm confronted with adversity I will find a way to persevere and learn from it.
