Personal Statement
12/15/2014
All the way up to this, my sophomore year of high school, I have been a three sport athlete. I played hockey, baseball and football. In the fall of 2014, I made the decision to forgo football to focus on hockey training and participate in the Minnesota Elite Prep Development Hockey League. Even though I have played all three of these sports and excelled at all of them, hockey has always been my passion. I started skating when I was 3 years old, and have been playing hockey for 11 years now, and there is nothing I enjoy doing more.
Ever since I was little my dream was to be in the NHL. I remember in past years when I would go to MAP (Minnesota Advancement Program) to complete my interviews with my trainer they would always ask how far I wanted to go in hockey, and my answer was always the NHL. That’s a great goal to have but now that I’m older I’ve realized that you need to create multiple smaller goals to reach your ultimate goal. The most recent of my goals accomplished was making the Varsity hockey team. I did this by putting a lot of work in. Over the past four summers I have participated in the MAP program. At MAP we skate everyday and workout as well, but this past summer was more intense than the prior years. During the offseason I converted from a center to a defensemen and to help me out with that I worked personally with Garrett Gruenke, on and off the ice. I’ve also participated in the offseason high school STP and lifting program, but most significantly I played in the Elite Prep Development League. This experience helped me most with my new position and is what ultimately lead me to making the Varsity team as a sophomore (only underclassmen on the full time roster). My next goal is to play the sport I love in college, while earning a degree.
My love of the game, determination and heart is what sets me apart from the other players. In terms of skill, I have great hockey sense, puck moving ability, and offensive ability. But few can match how passionate I am for the game of hockey. I bring great leadership, positive attitude, and energy to every team. I have been a captain many times, and I really enjoy the responsibility and role the captain has to take on a team.
