Personal Statement

Fire and ice--these are my two passions.

Ice: I have been playing ice hockey since elementary school and my goal is to play college hockey at the highest level possible. I am a versatile, gritty, and smart hockey player with experience playing center, wing, and defense at both the elite club and varsity high school levels for all 4 years. My club coach, John Wright, describes me "as his hardest working player who can do anything I ask him to do on the ice." My favorite place on the ice is to be first in the corners, forechecking, and creating havoc with the other team, tying up 2-3 players. As a winger and center, I am a top producer in goals and assists. Last year, my club and high school coaches asked me to switch to defense due to team injuries. I was happy to help my coaches and teammates and even though I had not played defense in years, I was able to quickly contribute. I also consistently play on penalty kill and power play lines. I play with the passion to win the puck every time and I'm ready to contribute to my college team.

Fire: My career goal is to become a fire fighter and paramedic. I plan to attend college and earn my degree in paramedicine and then attend the fire academy. Academically, I have a 3.2 unweighted/3.9 weighted high school GPA and have already earned 10 college credits completing my EMT certification course. I have also been volunteering with the BlackJack Fire Department for 2 years, learning basic firefighting skills and providing community service. Throughout high school, I have earned 180+ community service hours while always playing on 2 hockey teams and being involved in my school community, too. I work hard to be a good student, hockey player, and community member.

I look forward to talking with you about playing for your team. Thank you!
