Personal Statement
Hello Coaches,
I aspire to attend a 4-year college with the goals of receiving my degree (in whatever I finally decide to major in, because there is life after hockey) and playing Division 1 hockey. Winning a national championship is a goal of mine, as well. Other goals of mine include, playing or working for the National Hockey League (NHL), making long-term friendships with teammates and other students, maintaining a high GPA or honor role status and becoming a productive member of society.
I have played hockey since I was three years old and have played at some of the higher levels throughout the years. I am a team player and tend to play with emotion. I always have the desire to win and learn. I work hard, both on the ice and off the ice, to better myself and my team. I understand that paying attention to detail, especially when learning or executing systems is important. By having these qualities, I feel that I am a good candidate for your team.
Differences I feel that I posses from other recruits are as follows:
Character - I do not use drugs, alcohol or tobacco. I have strong family values and beliefs. I tend to spend my spare time helping some of my older family members with chores or tasks and working to save money for my future. I have drive and determination.
Athletics - Having the worst hockey birthday ever (December 31st), I have always found myself competing harder for a spot on higher level teams, as I am deemed the "baby" of the team for having such a late birthday. This has forced me to excel and strive for those positions. I am a forward, however, I have played some defense over the years allowing me to not only be a two-way player, but to fully understand the positions and aspects of the game. I have a strong hockey sense and love to develop plays.
Academics - I strive to get A's on report cards and recently obtained status on the National Honors Society. Graduating, with honors, would be deemed by me to be a great accomplishment. I plan on entering some college level courses (upon reaching my Junior year) to further my education and prepare myself for the collegiate life.
Thank you for your time and consideration in making me a part of your program.
