Personal Statement
When I was 3 years old, my dad put a hockey stick in my hands and said you're going to score some goals! Unfortunately for him, I've ended up as a goaltender, just like him. I've always loved hockey, since the first time I've seen the Montreal Canadians play on TV. Until now, I've been loving hockey more than I love myself! I would say that my dad always has been one of the biggest influences in my life as a goalie and as a student. Throughout those 13 years of pure pleasure, I've learned to lead a team by showing some confidence on the ice as well as cheering for my teammates when I am on the bench. The most important thing I've learned, or should I say, mastered since I've always had it in me, is that I am a competitor. I am not able to think about loosing. Loosing, in my book, is not an option. Since the time I've been playing in the street with my friends for fun until now, in every sports that I have played, ( Football, soccer, hockey ), I've always hated loosing. When I reflect on my two times as playoffs winner, my five times as regional winner and the many tournaments that I have won, I think that all of these accomplishments demonstrate that I have been fortunate enough to be on the winner side and that I know what it takes to win.
For the academic part, in high school I would like to keep a 4.0 GPA if not better and take a Spanish class to speak a third language since I already speak French and English. I hope to be accepted to a good college where I could study in a nice and stimulating environment as well as play for a competitive team. I would like to study to be an architect.
Last year I played for the California Titans 18AAA as a 15 year old. I was alone across North America since I am from Montreal. I've matured a lot since I was alone in California, without my family. I stayed with a builit family where they accepted me really well, almost like their own child. Since I have moved to California at such an early age, I had to learn to take care of myself (meals, cleaning, washing, ..). I also had to get accepted into a team of players who were mostly 17 and 18. I think that I adjusted well, they are my good friends now. It was not the first time I joined a team of older players, it was the same situation when I played in U15 at age 12.
Finally, I consider myself a very outgoing person who can integrate into a group easily. I can overcome challenges with dedicated work and perseverance. I can easily get along with younger people and older people. My goalie skills are my technique, the way that I remain calm in any situation, I am very analytic of my work and can make the necessary adjustments in my game. I am told that I am a great teammate who always cheers and will never criticize a teammate. And most important: I can stop the puck!
Maybe I will eventually be stopping these pucks for your team!
