Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Michael Linhares. I started playing hockey at the age of 5 and Ice Hockey at the age 8 after watching my cousin play in a playoff game. That was the moment I knew hockey was the sport I wanted to play and thrive in. I was able to convince my parents to let me play against older competion in street hockey. I made great friends while playing and was invited to an ice rink for a birthday party when I skated for the first time, and realized I was better than others for a first time skater. It wasn’t much longer when I got my first set of roller blades and used them for hours, everyday after school. Ice Hockey is what I wanted and it wasn’t an option with the closest rink being 40 minutes away. After playing on rollerblades for a year I moved up to play against Middle School age kids as an 8 year old when I was able to convince my parents to move to more competitive Ice Hockey. After a few years I progressed from secondary scoring to a top line player and moved up rankings from limited Travel, to A, AA, and Junior Hockey.
I always strive to work as hard as I can every minute of practice and games and then work even harder. Every season I make sure I am vocal and a team leader regardless of being a captain, alternate, or no letter.
I am working on building size and muscle as much as possible, go to the gym multiple times a week and spend hours outside working on developing hockey skills without the need of ice.
July 2018 I was offered to play with the Lehigh Valley Jr Rebels EHL for the 2018-2019 season. After playing 20 games in the EHL relocated to the Philadelphia Revolution EHLP which is the U18 AAA team for their organization.
I am always punctual and pride myself on going to every practice possible for every team, as well as being one of the first ones at the rink and one of the last to leave. In addition I enjoy assisting coaches to younger players practices to give back to the organization that taught me to be a better player on and off the ice.
I just finished my sophomore year in high school at Middle Township High School which boasts one of the top honors and AP programs in New Jersey. Schooling has always been number one for me as I take honors and AP classes with the occasional Advanced class.
All that I want is to get a chance to show myself and prove any doubts wrong. I can promise any coach viewing my profile you won’t find a more respectful and hard working person.
I look forward to any opportunities and hope to see you at a camp or game soon.
Any questions feel free to email, call, or text me as I will always be willing to talk about hockey.
Thank you for viewing my profile
