Personal Statement
Playing hockey in college has been a dream of mine for a long time. Sports has been a passion since I started playing little league baseball. I grew up around professional baseball because my father worked for a Phillies minor league team, and my youth was spent meeting players, attending lots of games and getting to see behind the scenes. About the same time I started little league, I also started the learn to play program at my local rink. Even though my dad worked in baseball, he was also a high school hockey coach and he played up to college. So, very quickly, my sports passions became hockey and baseball.
As the years went by, I tried other sports, but hockey truly became my #1. I started to be counted on as a top scorer and developed my game with some excellent coaches and teammates who became like brothers. My high school team was extremely competitive, but I was able to make the varsity roster as a freshman, dress for most games and even got a few shifts each period. My sophomore year was a transition for me where I was given a lot more ice time and was able to score seven goals while helping the team win our conference title for a third straight year and advance to the State Semifinals, losing in OT to the eventual champion. Last season, the pandemic limited our season to only a few games, all against top ranked opponents. We opened against the Parochial State Champion and held our own, and we were able to tie some very tough teams, but two total shutdowns ended our season before we could build on it.
Going into this season, I was offered a spot on a junior team in the EHLP, however turned it down in order to play one more season with my teammates at the U18AA level. While I know that this decision may look bad to some, I made it so I can finish goals that were left on the table. I wanted to enjoy playing this game with my friends one last season and I want to help lead my high school team back to the state tournament and finish what we didn't have a chance to finish last year.
After graduation, I want to play college hockey at the highest level that I can contribute in. My goal is to get a degree in sports management and become a member of the front office of a professional sports team. Sports has always been my passion, so I want to be able to keep it a major part of my life even after my competitive playing days are over.
