Shawn McLane '25 Recruiting Profile

Dedication and a drive to improve my goalie skills are what makes me a standout hockey goalie. I have been skating since I was four years old, and I’ve been playing goalie consistently since I was eight.  Before that, I was that kid that who always raised his hand when coach said, “Who wants to play in net this game?”  My youth hockey team, the Chazy Flyers, has shaped who I am today on and off the ice.  I have been playing with this team since I stepped on the ice.  In addition, I also play varsity hockey for Saranac/Peru High School.  Throughout my hockey career, I have gained some notable achievements.  I have qualified for state’s three times with the Chazy Flyers.  One of those years, we came in second place.  Another year, we qualified, but lost the chance to attend due to Covid.  This past year, I am proud to say that my teammates and I won the New York State Championship.  I came out of this tournament as one of the top goaltenders.  My goal is to start playing junior hockey within the next year.  I then hope to play at a collegiate level.  I have a lot to offer as a teammate.  I always do whatever I can to help my team excel.  I review footage to learn how to improve my game and contribute to my team’s game.  I believe that team building and chemistry are key to success.   

Academics are an important part of my future.  One goal I have for this school year is to improve my grades.  I want to take my grades from low 80s to high 80s/low 90s.  I plan to make these improvements by dedicating more time to studying and preparing for my classes.  I will use my school time and set aside work time wisely so that I can dedicate more time to improving my goaltending and athletic skills.
