Hello, my name is Micah Hershey. I'm a 17 year old (Birth date: March 3rd, 2000) currently playing North Dakota High School Hockey. Thank you for your interest- I hope to serve as an asset to your hockey program.
From the first time I watched hockey, I wanted to be the goalie. I was made to be the goalie. Of course, much has transpired since then. However, at an early age I began to study and research more about the position of goaltending. Even though I was only 14 years old, I still knew more about the position than anybody I had a relationship with. So I began to study and research more about the position. So I began studying the game by watching as much hockey as I could and evaluating myself daily. This was nothing compared to the wisdom that I later received. That summer I found this goalie camp out of Bismarck, North Dakota called "Goalrobbers". My mom said that we didn't have enough money in for the camp so I wrote and essay for a scholarship. I won the scholarship and got the privilege to go to the camp for free. This began a sequence of events that changed my life forever.
I have engaged in goalie-specific mentor-ship and training and training since then and have received numerous "Hardest Worker" and "Goaltender Leadership" awards for coach-ability, leadership, have a positive demeanor and admirable work ethic. Through these experiences I have learned to embrace all of the challenges I am facing as well as using failure to become a better goaltender and person. Additionally, I regularly volunteer and teach younger goalies within my local youth hockey program. I love teaching and I think it is one of the best ways to learn.
Though I play High School Hockey, I have been playing hockey year round trying to find opportunities wherever I can. Last fall I played in a North Dakota/Minnesota pre-high school league in which I won a championship. I have been to many USA hockey development camps as well as tryouts. All of these experiences have aided in my development and expose me to the skills necessary to be successful at the next level.
One of my greatest strengths is my explosiveness and my powerful movements in the crease. Though I prefer to have my feet set for every shot, I can make timely saves in desperation. My flexibility is key contributor in this. I can do the splits and I use yoga, static stretching, and foam rolling off the ice as a way to make myself more proficient on the ice. I also have exceptional vision. I am a leader- Our class "B" school faces class "A" teams. We are often outmatched but it gives me a great opportunity to develop. I am also an effective communicator.
That said, I am constantly looking for ways to improve as a athlete and person. I am a lifelong student of the game and welcome a program that values goaltender development.
Again, thank you for your time and interest. Feel free to contact me directly for more questions.
