I would like to pursue hockey while I am completing my post-secondary education. It is very important to me to complete post-secondary schooling for career options in the future. To be able to play the sport I love at the highest level while completing my academics would be a dream come true.
Like many, I have loved the game of hockey since I was little. However, I did not have the chance to play at the highest levels until I reached my U15 year. Some of it was hockey politics and some of it was my skill took time to develop. I finally broke through into AAA hockey in my U15 year with a team outside of my city who gave me a chance to prove myself. It wasn't a very successful year in the standings, but I learned a lot about what it would take to compete at a higher level.
For my grade 9 & 10 school years I attend Victus Hockey Academy in Kitchener. At Victus we had on-ice training an hour each morning, 4 mornings a week, as well as off ice training. On ice I trained under Mike Ellis, the Director of Skill Development for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Off ice, I trained under Brandon Merli, the Director of Sports and Science Development coach for the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. These 2 years at Victus gave me an edge many players do not have access too. My hockey IQ has risen and the way I see the game has changed. This season I have made the jump to Junior hockey. I am playing for the Plattsville Lakers in the Greater Metro Hockey League.
During the off-season, I continue to train at Brandon's gym, called RedLine Training Centre. I will attach video footage of in-season training.
Academically, I am looking at studying in the social sciences. I am interested in pursuing a career in teaching at the primary level or in law enforcement. Over the past 2 summers, I have had the opportunity to work as a camp counselor. Additionally, this past term at school, I had a co-op placement for 2 months in a grade 4 classroom. I have found I really enjoy working with children. I love their energy, warmth, and the way they see the world. I like that I can play some role in their life and maybe make a difference or make things better for them in some small way.
