Personal Statement
Do I DREAM of playing hockey for the NHL, the answer is, you bet I do. Every guy I know that put on a pair of skates before sunrise every day for 12 years has that dream. My personal goals and aspirations are more grounded. I want to go to college to get an education for a stable financial future. I have the academic capability to succeed in college. I don't have the financial abilities to fund my college education. I have developed my physical and mental ability to play quality hockey. I'm passionate about hockey. My plan is to combine my passion for hockey with my aspiration for an education that will lead me to a secure financial future.
What makes me a good candidate for your college hockey team is my dedication to both hockey and a quality education. I've dedicated my teenage years to making my goals happen for me.
I am Russian. I grew up in Moscow playing goalie from age 4. My parents are of simple financial means. 3 years ago my parents sold the family car to pay for my airline ticket to the United States to advance my education and hockey skills. My focus has been school and hockey since arriving to this country. This combined focus in my early teenage years makes me different than other candidates for your team. I've been able to prove I can handle a hockey passion with an academic aspiration. I understand a financial investment and have a deep desire to not waste opportunity. I can handle pressure. As you can see from my transcript, I have shown consistent academic improvement not allowing language to be a barrier. I am most proud that I have maintained Distinguished Honors. Over The Boards Amateur hockey scouting report rated me as second of the 1996 birth year's "Top Uncommitted goaltending prospects. Svistunov has rock solid fundamentals and tracks the puck extremely well."
I feel I've demonstrated that I'm a "rock solid" guy both in the classroom and on the ice. I'm ready to take the next step and won't waste an opportunity to prove and improve myself everyday.
