Ryan Elkin '23 Recruiting Profile

I've loved the sport of hockey ever since I've laid my eyes on it. It's been apart of my life since I was 7 years old. I started off playing the center position for a dek hockey team for about 2 years. I tried goalie during my 2nd year and after that, fell in love with the position. Therefore for my final season for dek hockey I played goalie and moved up to ice hockey that same year. I played my first full season of ice hockey as a goalie and then next year joined the McDowell Trojans middle school team. I played my 3 years of middle school there and then moved up to their high school program. I played my first season mainly on varsity and on average would face 50 shots a game. My second season I was the starter for varsity but a concussion ended that towards the beginning of the season. After playing the rest of the season with them I decided it was time for a change of scenery and I joined the Harborcreek Huskies High school varsity team and had a career year putting up career bests in every category and making the all star team and finishing runner up for the goalie of the year award in the CSHL (Cleveland Suburban Hockey League). I spent the last season with them and now this upcoming season I decided to make a return to McDowell hockey and take over the varsity starting spot in my senior year.

I'm a hard worker and will give 110% every practice and every game. I have the mindset of going into every practice and saying I'm gonna get better. I'm good under pressure and feel as that I'm at my best when I'm under pressure. I also like to volunteer at places and help other people get into the sport of hockey. I've helped at try hockey for free programs, learn to skate programs, and many others. I'm hoping I can further my education and my hockey career at the right college and pursue my dream of being a hockey player.
