Personal Statement
I have grown up admiring not just the goalies that were popular (Carey Price, Henrik Lundqvist), but most importantly the goalies that grinded their way to the top, the goalies that love the sport and got to where they are because they were willing to overcome the challenges when it was hard (James Reimer, Patrick Roy). These men were willing to fight the criticism, when it seemed like everyone gave up on them saying it was over, or hearing no constantly they wouldn't quite. They kept working, fighting, earning each game, and that's the type of goalie I am. I fight to play, I work to get a chance to be noticed, if i'm out-skilled I out work, if i'm in a new environment I adapt, that's the type of goalie I am.
I love hockey, hockey means more to me than anything, hockey has been a part of my life since I was 3. I remember the first time I saw hockey players, I was 3 years old and I just finished my skating lessons. My dad and I were watching the Zamboni drive by, and during which players were lining up to practice. In that moment I saw that goalie I knew thats what I wanted to be, that was my calling and in that moment I turned to my dad and I told him I was going to be the greatest hockey goalie ever to live. Since than I have worked towards that dream, and in the process I have found something I love so much more than I ever thought I could. I understand that getting closer to the end of Highschool that my career may end soon. I don't want that to happen I want to keep playing hockey and following my dreams so I can do what I love for most of my life. Because at the end of the day I just enjoy playing hockey and its what I always have done to push myself to the next level.
Since I was 4 years old I have wanted to be a college goalie. As a result I was always told "It's really hard" or "Only a few goalies can make those teams", so everyday I go into practice knowing that what I put into this day, if I push myself harder today than I did yesterday that I can be the best. Because it may come down to one shot, one second I am willing to fight through to get to my dreams, more than the other guy gunning for the same spot. As a result I push myself academically through tutoring and surrounding myself with more intelligent people than I am, as well as putting in more work during practice and games staying after practice to train, whether its 11:00 pm or 1:00 am, because I want to win more than anyone else. I bring everything I have to each game knowing that someone could be watching me that could mean all the difference, between making it to the top or not.
