Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Simon Newton. I am fifteen years old and have playing hockey since I was six. I started playing hockey because my brother was and I thought that it looked really cool and fun, one thing lead to another and I was the first starting goalie by hockey 3 in organization history. I lived in Canada for the first fourteen years of my life and moved to America at the beginning of the 2017-18 season. I am a duel citizen as I was born in America and took my Canadian oath in early 2018. The reason that I was born in America and raised in Canada is because of my parents work. My parents work as a traveling carnival, meaning that we own rides and games and travel to different events. So my parents are from the states and moved to Canada for work yet I was born in America because they were still transitioning with insurance and stuff like that. Now we moved back to America for the same reason

I grew up in Chilliwack, British Columbia and played for Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) my entire life. I played AAA tier 1 hockey for Chilliwack in the PCAHA against other highly recognizable teams like Burnaby Winter Club and NSWC. The highlight of my hockey career is when I went to the BC Cup for u15's and was third amongst the sixteen goalies for the combine. Up until fifth grade I was the average everyday student but that year I got a really good coach that made me realize what I can be, so I applied myself to school and before I knew it I had straight A's and won the academic student of the year award and school was coming easily. In seventh grade I took an academic assessment from the district to see if I could skip a grade to be with my hockey friends because I got held back due to my birthday in school but not sports, anyways I got a "gifted" result putting me in the top 1% and allowing me to skip grade seven, which I did.

I am an overachiever and want to play hockey at the highest level possible and play at my highest potential and ability. I am a good candidate for your team because I am a good guy that connects with people well and quickly and is willing to do all it takes for my team to win.
