Personal Statement
I am Connor Olson with the Class of 2019 at Darien High School in Darien, Connecticut.
When I look back on some of my highest sports achievements, I remember my Freshman year. I was in the locker room getting ready for practice and just as I was heading out the door, my coach tapped me on the shoulder and pointed at the roster sheets for Varsity post season. My name was on the roster and 52 was the number I would wear on my back. It honestly was one of the best moments of my life and the greatest thing about it, was that it did not end there. That year I had the experience of winning the State and FCIAC Championships with the Varsity team. Along with the other three freshmen that were called up, we were known as the 'Elite' players, we celebrated and realized what we all had achieved as individuals and as a team.
I view myself as a strong, vocal leader. I push myself harder than anyone I have played with and push my fellow teammates as hard as I am able to so as a team we are the best we can be. Even without the title of Captain, I am never afraid to speak up. On the lacrosse field, there is no challenge that will ever stop me from progressing. I do not quit nor do I give up. I am always looking for ways to improve my skills on the lacrosse field. These attributes drive my lacrosse game to the high level it is. I think of myself as having a strong Lacrosse IQ and a very high understanding of the game. On top of that, my greatest attribute as a defender is control of my stick and my speed. My stick skills on top of my agility and speed allows me to be a key player on the field. But to me, being good at something only means one can get better. And I strive to make my game better everyday, whether throwing on the wall or calling one of my teammates to practice one-on-one or just working on footwork.
I am a very adaptive individual on the lacrosse field. Going into Darien High School I had always played close defense. My Freshman year saw me playing starting defender on Darien's Freshman team and being brought up to Varsity for the post season as defender. Sophomore year I started on Darien's JV team as defender and could perform at every defensive position on the field, whether man or man down situations. Playing on Varsity, I played mostly man defense. Over the summer with the CT Chargers, I played close defense and was also successful as LSM.
In the upcoming months, I will be playing with the Long Island Express North AA club team and prepping for another successful regular season with the Darien Blue Wave.
