Personal Statement

Hello everyone, my name is Drew Taylor and I absolutely love the game of lacrosse! So much so that I switched from playing baseball since the age of four to playing lacrosse for the first time during my freshman year of high school. Although I'm new to the sport, I seemed to have picked it up fairly quickly as I was awarded the most improved player on my junior varsity team as a freshman and all area honorable mention in my junior year. I was even called up to play temporarily with the varsity team in my first year. Now starting my final year of playing lacrosse as a senior, I'm extremely excited to show what I can do. Although I may be small in stature, I'm extremely fast and aggressive and will do anything to help my teammate win the game.

What I think makes me different from other recruitable candidates that you may meet during the scouting process, is that I'm extremely disciplined, coachable and versatile especially being from a career military family. I also take special pride in not only my strict nutritional choices and body fitness/physique but also in my academics in the classroom as I would like to become a computer programmer in the future. I would also consider myself to be somewhat of a perfectionist that attempts to maximize my full potential while motivating others to become their best.

Additionally, I am not scared of a leadership role when given an opportunity.

Thank you for giving me this platform to not only explain how much I love the game but also my excitement about the possibility to attend a great college after high school.

The player I aspire to be and pattern my game after is Sergio Salcido of the PLL Chaos in lacrosse or Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros in baseball

True Lacrosse Florida is pleased to announce our new partnership with Tony Lowe to launch the first ever True Florida State Teams. The State Team program, which has been in place in other True Lacrosse programs across the country, is an exciting, elite program for top players from across the state. In its inaugural year, the True Florida State Team Program will host teams at each grade level, from graduation years 2020-2027. Additionally, the True Florida State Teams will have access to top events in the country, allowing them more exposure to college coaches and more opportunities to get recruited. Each player will receive one-on-one guidance throughout the recruiting process to find a school that will best fit their academic and athletic skills. They will also receive performance reviews throughout their tenure with the State Teams so they can continue to grow, improve, and refine their game.

Drew has been selected to attend play for the east team in the Junior Day National event which will feature four teams representing different regions of the country in a round robin format that will give each team four games. We will have coaches on the field and in the dugout to not only evaluate players, but to also provide feedback and instruction. Each team will also participate in a college skills evaluation session that will measure many of the metrics that are important in today’s game. In addition to this, our staff of college coaches will also be participating in a seminar with all players and their families about the college recruiting process and what it takes to be a successful college baseball player. WHY IS IT A CAMP AND A SHOWCASE? Well, because it's the best of both worlds. Players want to showcase their skills to coaches, but they should also want to learn from the coaches. Coaches want to evaluate players and their skills so they can teach them appropriately, just like they do with their own players. The Florida Gators Baseball program is pleased to be offering our winter instructional baseball camp. This camp is designed to help players learn the same basic fundamental skills that help prepare the Gators for the toughest conference in college baseball. Campers will get to hone their skills with instruction from the 2017 National Championship winning Florida Baseball coaching staff, along with current Florida Gators players. During this camp, each session will be limited to 80 participants. The limited numbers at camp help to ensure that campers are getting more instruction and repetitions throughout each session. Description: This showcase camp will be taking place at our Baseball Stadium on our beautiful campus in Boca Raton, FL. This camp is open to any and all entrants in the graduation years 2019-2023. Not only will all members of the FAU Coaching Staff be in attendance, there will be coaches from other colleges and universities working and recruiting at our camp as well. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your skills in front of multiple schools from various levels of college baseball. Not only will you get to learn the daily routine of a FAU Baseball player, these other college coaches will be instructing some drills and workouts that are prevalent at their respective school. As of early June 2019, I also started attending NUMA Speed in Gainesville, FL (3x's per week) which is ran by former Olympian and world record holder in the 100-meter sprint Tim Montgomery. As per their website NUMA Speed ensures that clients will learn the correct way to conditions the right muscles including fast twitch muscles fibers that are critical to explosive starts, improved running speed, quickness, and agility. Regardless of how fast the student begins, he/she is guaranteed to increase their speed beyond their expectations.
